Home. Reimagined.
Who is MiddleHouse
Growing up in Toronto and seeing the city evolve, we’ve witnessed firsthand the housing needs in our neighbourhoods.
With a shared passion for our vibrant city, we teamed up to tackle the negative impact of substandard planning and design, the impact it has on communities and to address the lack of urban alternative housing for our children and ageing parents.
Globally, the missing middle concept is seen as a viable long-term housing option for all ages and income levels. This form of urban alternative housing has historically been built in Toronto, prior to the mindset change to urban sprawl post WW2.
The result of restrictive zoning has been less vitality and more concerning, less affordability. By creating urban alternative housing for all ages and income levels to live in a neighbourhood creates a safer, healthier and affordable option for residents to live in at all stages of life.
With an increase in gentle density, the option for more car-free options becomes viable as increased density justifies better transit, car-share and bike options. In addition, more foot traffic benefits retail and reduces carbon usage.
At MiddleHouse, our mission is to address these housing issues and create positive examples of urban alternative housing that will enhance neighbourhoods for future generations with our missing middle concept.
