Best-in-Class Solutions for a World-Class City

Toronto is often referred to as ‘The City of Neighbourhoods’.

Growing up in Toronto and seeing the city evolve, we’ve witnessed firsthand the housing needs in our neighbourhoods. Due to the change in mindset towards urban sprawl post WW2, restrictive zoning has led to less vitality, housing options and more concerning, less affordability for residents.

Realizing these challenges but also an opportunity to lead the change, we created MiddleHouse to provide a better option to high-rise developments and urban sprawl and bring back the historical built form of multiplexes. At MiddleHouse, we have a passion for cities, the environment, vibrant walkable neighbourhoods, and urban alternative housing that respects the current built form.

By creating urban alternative housing for all ages and income levels to live in a neighbourhood, creates a safer, healthier and affordable option for residents, at all stages of life.

With an increase in gentle density, the option for more car-free options becomes viable as increased density justifies better transit, car-share and bike options. In addition, more foot traffic benefits retail and reduces carbon usage.

At MiddleHouse, our mission is to address these housing issues and create positive examples of urban alternative housing that will enhance neighbourhoods for future generations with our missing middle concept.

Looking at other world-class cities, multi-family boutique buildings on quiet residential streets are highly valued and provide urban alternative housing for different needs and price points.

Each MiddleHouse project we view as a house, designed to integrate respectfully into the streetscape in terms of massing, materials and privacy. We believe that individual front doors, large windows and outdoor transitional spaces help to create safe, friendly neighbourhoods and a sense of place.

Whether you're downsizing and want to remain in a tight-knit community, or you're looking to raise your children in a house-like environment on a quiet residential street, MiddleHouse is a fit. Each of our houses provides all the benefits of a single-family home but with zero maintenance and a lower price point, so you'll have more time and money to enjoy Toronto’s dynamic neighbourhoods.
